Former Odisha CM JB Patnaik passes away

Former Odisha chief minister and ex-Assam governor Janaki Ballabh Patnaik passed away in Tirupati on Tuesday. He was 89.

According to reports, Patnaik's last rites would be done at Puri.

Janaki Ballabh Patnaik was born on January 3, 1927. The Congress leader first became chief minister of Odisha in 1980 and was in power till 1989. He returned for a four-year stint in 1995. He has been Assam governor since 2009.

Patnaik passed out with a degree in Sanskrit from the Utkal University in 1947 and secured an MA degree in Political Science from the Banaras Hindu University in 1949.
