Raje talked about the potential in the tourism sector during the inauguration of the 8th edition of the Great Indian Travel Bazaar (GITB) in Jaipur on Sunday. Speaking on the occasion, the chief minister said that it was appropriate that the GITB was again being held in Jaipur as Jaipur and Rajasthan have become synonymous with tourism.
Happy that about 10,000 pre-structured, pre-scheduled meetings will be held during the next two-days, she hoped that the foreign tour operators - present at the meet in large numbers - would give their inputs and suggestions for improved tourism products in the country.
She said that the existing Tourism unit policy would be announced shortly in Rajasthan and will make easy availability of land for tourism units as well as address conversion issues of hotels. The tourism sector, she said, would be an important part of business for the three-day Resurgent Rajasthan summit scheduled to be held in November in Jaipur later this year. She invited investment for new hotels, new circuits and tourism related infrastructure.
Additional director general, ministry of tourism, Usha Sharma, said in her special address that the existing destinations like the beaches of Goa, the back waters of Kerala and the golden triangle circuit were becoming dated. Instead, new destinations like swadesh darshan, desert circuit, Buddhist theme and Himalaya theme will be fresh experience to the tourists.
The international mart has been organized by the state department of tourism, Union ministry of tourism, and Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI). In the last eight years, GITB has hosted 1,817 foreign tourists operators, 50 countries, 1,661 exhibitors, 1,868 stalls and 57,185 pre-scheduled B2B meetings.
