Avantha gets ‘mafia’ threat over Adani sale

NEW DELHI: The director of the Gautam Thapar-controlled Avantha Group has received a death threat over the sale of the company's Korba power plant in Chhattisgarh to Adani power, police sources said on Thursday. A caller claiming to be from the underworld demanded Rs 25 crore as protection money, failing which the director and his family would be eliminated, they said.

In November 2014, Adani Power, led by Gautam Adani, acquired the 600MW power plant for Rs 4,200 crore.

An FIR was registered under sections of extortion and criminal intimidation on April 14, a source said. While the incident has been kept under wraps, commissioner B S Bassi has formed a team of special cell veterans to crack the case.
