Attack on Malayalam professor: Man arrested in Coimbatore

CHENNAI: National Investigation Agency (NIA) sleuths from Kerala on Thursday arrested a man here in connection with an attack on a Malayalam professor in 2010.

The NIA officials arrested Najim, 28, from a hideout in Coimbatore. They took him to Ernakulam for further questioning.

Sources said Najim had assisted the main culprits to escape after attacking the professor, who was teaching at Nirmala College in Thodupuzha.

A team of radical youths intercepted the professor at Muvattupuzha in Ernakulam district when he was travelling on his car with his wife on July 4, 2010. They chopped off his hand as they were enraged over a question paper he had set for BCom students. There was an alleged blasphemous dialogue in the question paper.
