The small-scale industry sector is the second largest generator of jobs for youths, after agriculture, he pointed out.
The state government, said the CM, will soon bring in a policy to create an atmosphere conducive to the growth of the industrial sector, especially small-scale industries. It is also planning to allot sites to small-scale industries at 20-30% rebates, he added.
Putting the spotlight on the food processing industry, which is still in its infancy in the state, Siddaramaiah urged industrialists to invest in it and promised them government aid. He stressed on the need to make "value additions" to produce to help farmers rake in more profits.
He also assured them that the rider of compulsorily possessing a trade licence to set up an industrial unit will be withdrawn through amendments in the next legislature session. Several industrialists have been rallying against this stipulation on approaching local bodies for trade licences, contending that they cannot be classified as traders. They allege that local body authorities misuse this rule to rip off industrialists.
Pointing out the fast-developing trend of youths from rural regions giving up agriculture and migrating to cities in search of alternative jobs, he said it has been triggered by the thinking that farming is an unprofitable venture. He said Agrivision would help bring farmers and industrialists together and %create awareness about %new farming technologies that make the sector more lucrative.
Minister for agriculture Krishna Byre Gowda said farmers can reduce costs of production by using new technologies and farming equipment. He announced that the government will open 180 centres across the state for Rs 70 crore where farming equipment that use advanced technology will be rented out. Of these, 15 centres will be set up in Belagavi district. The government will also introduce sugarcane harvesters machines at these centres under a public-private partnership model next year.
IT-BT minister SR Patil, excise minister Satish Jarkiholi and MP Prakash Hukkeri also spoke. MP Suresh Angadi, MLC Veerkumar Patil, Karnataka State Small Scale Industries Association (KSSIA) president Chidanand Rajmane, Karnataka State Small Scale Industries Development Corporation (KSSIDC) president Gurappa Naidu and event chairman Basavaraj Javali were present.
The three-day agriculture summit is being jointly organized by KSSIA and KSSIDC.
