COLOMBO: Sri Lankans began voting Thursday in a tightly fought presidential election, with incumbent Mahinda Rajapakse seeking an unprecedented third term in office.
Polling booths opened across the island at 7 am (0130 GMT) and voting would continue for nine hours under tight security provided by 71,000 police, an elections department official said.
