Man wounded in cross-border firing passes away

JAMMU: A 50-year-old man, who was wounded in cross-border firing near Jammu on October 6, died on Friday.

Officials identified the deceased as Om Prakash and added he had received splinter injuries along the India-Pakistan border at Arnia.


The latest death has taken the toll from recent cross-border firing to nine. Over 90, including 13 soldiers, have been wounded since October 1.


Separately, Indian and Pakistani troops exchanged fire at Hamirpor along the Line of Control in Poonch district on Friday.


Army sources said Pakistani troops used small arms and mortars to target forward Indian posts, which prompted retaliation from similar caliber weapons.


Intermittent firing continued till late in the evening. No loss of life or injury was reported.
