Addressing a press conference, Soni took on the SAD-BJP alliance in the state, saying that it was baffling that though these problems are so obvious yet no action has been taken by the current regime in Punjab. "There is a complete apathy towards the plight of the people and this has resulted in widespread discontentment, with the people are calling for a change," she said.
Insisting that she had been trying to practice restraint and not react to her rival SAD candidate Prem Singh Chandumajra, she retorted, "He should tell the voters from where he will contest the next election. He has been talking about irrelevant things. Remarks like I wear suits-salwar in Punjab and saris in Delhi are non-issues."
Admitting the presence of Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) as a force in the ongoing elections, she said it might take a share in the pie of anti-incumbency votes against the state government. "However, the way AAP failed to fulfill the aspirations of people in Delhi could go against them," she said.
Soni said unlike the last assembly elections in 2012 when Congress messed up its chances with wrong choice of candidates, this time Congress had fielded strong leaders in all the constituencies. "These are experienced politicians, some of them having worked in governments and know how to handle situations," she said.
Asked about BJP's attack on Robert Vadra, Soni said there was nothing new in the campaign. "The Congress party has belied that same treatment should be meted out to everyone and there should be action if there has been any wrongdoing but in this case the opposition has failed to provide any evidence to substantiate the charges," she claimed.
