Modi gave away 45,000 acres of land to Adanis for Rs 300 crore: Rahul Gandhi

UNNAO: Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi on Wednesday charged BJP prime ministerial candidate and Gujarat chief minister Narendra Modi with "giving away around 45,000 acres of land to Adanis for a meagre Rs 300 crore". "The land in question is larger than Varanasi. As a return gift, Adanis are funding his expensive election campaign," Rahul said.

"Crores of rupees are being spent on Modi rallies. Now just tell me where so much money is coming from? Definitely, those who benefitted from Modi are funding his election campaign," Rahul claimed while addressing a rally at the Government Inter College Ground here in support of party candidate Annu Tandon.

The constituency is scheduled to go to polls on April 30 in phase-7.

In a frontal attack on Modi, Rahul reiterated, "You know, Gujarat is being developed by only one person Narendra Modi and nobody else. He doesn't even require your help, views or any suggestions as he wants to confine everything to himself. He considers himself to be world's most 'knowledgeable' fellow."

He went on to add, "Now, there is no Atal Bihari Vajpayee or Lal Krishna Advani in BJP to discuss issues. Everything is confined to only one person, who claims credit for the overall development of Gujarat." The Congress vice-president also alleged that Gujarat government gave away Rs 10,000 crore to the Tata Group on 1% interest for the Nano factory. "While a common man still pays 12% interest for a loan from bank," he added.

Accusing Gujarat government of diverting education and health funds to one industrialist, Rahul said, "About 40 lakh people in Gujarat are still below poverty line and one out of every two children is starving. More than 8,000 farmers have so far committed suicide in Gujarat. People are being deprived of basic amenities like drinking water. Despite all this, the 'toffee' and 'chocolate' model, which one can easily procure here in UP by shelling out Re 1, has been making rounds in the market."

"For every Nano car, the Gujarat government gives Rs 40,000 to Tatas. This is the hard earned money of the people of Gujarat," Rahul alleged, repeating earlier claims that Modi sacrificed common man's interest for big business houses in his home state.

The total budget of the Gujarat government on education, health and other welfare schemes was less than Rs 10,000 crore, he asserted. Rahul promised overall development of the country, including Unnao if voted to power. "T-shirts, shoes, watches and other products with Made in China tag would be replaced with goods with Made in Unnao and Made in UP tag," he said.

"Go through the speeches of Congress leaders and compare it with those of BJP. You will not find hatred or anger in speeches of Soniaji, Manomohan Singhji or Antonyji but love and care as our party irrespective of caste, creed and religion believes in inclusive development of each and every person for country's growth and development. However BJP believes in anger and spreading hatred among communities as it believes in 'divisive' policy," he said.

Turning towards BJP-led state governments, he said, "The BJP says we want to empower women, but in Karnataka, BJP ministers attack women. In Chhattisgarh, nearly 22,000 women are missing. In Gujarat, policemen are sent behind women."
