Man held with explosives from Guwahati railway station

GUWAHATI: A government railway police force (GRP) sleuth nabbed one Raidar Bhutia who was travelling with a huge cache of explosives from Guwahati railway station on Sunday.

The police seized at least 26 kilos of gelatin and detonators from his possession. Bhutia hails from Darjeeling in West Bengal.

GRPF officials said that Raidar was on his way to his home town from Shillong via Guwahati.

"He came to the station to board the Kanchanjungha Express. He said that he was an army man but we are doubtful about his identity.

"He must have been taking these explosives for some subversive activities. We suspect he has links with Maoist rebels," said a GRP official.

Bhutia, however, denied the charges and said that he was taking the explosives for fishing purposes. "We blast them in rivers to catch fish," he said.
