Last day to make changes in voters' list: Nashik district collector

NASHIK: Citizens, whose names have been deleted from the voters' list due to clerical errors, can approach the district election office till Tuesday afternoon to ensure they are accounted for. The voters have to carry proof of residence during last elections and have to claim that their had voted during the previous polls.

The district election officers claimed that there were not to many of such electors, whose names may have been deleted from the electoral rolls for invalid reasons.

District collector Vilas Patil said, "Till Tuesday noon, we urge all electors whose names are missing from the electoral rolls to come with proofs so that they can be reinstated."

He added, "Many political parties have approached us claiming that the names of the electors from some areas have been deleted. None of them have come forward with specific details to support their claims."

The election officer said the voters should claim that they have cast their votes during the last elections and should not have shifted their residence for the period of more than four months that might have led the Booth Level Officer (BLO) to believe that the elector has shifted to new location.

"If the electors have moved away to different location or have another residence, there are chances that the neighbours might have told BLOs that the electors has shifted to new location. In such case, the name might have been deleted. Such cases will not be entertained," he said.

He added, "Only those electors who have not shifted to any other location after they cast their vote during the last elections will be entertained and clerical mistakes if any will be rectified."

Patil said that the political parties had failed to come up with the required details till Monday evening. "Everybody is making tall claims of thousands of names missing but there has been nothing to substantiate the same," he said.

Last day of rallies

As the campaigning comes to close on Tuesday, the district election officer has asked the political parties to wrap up their campaigns, rallies and road shows and any kind of gathering by 3.00 pm sharp. "The campaign officially closes at 6.00 pm and hence it is required that the rallies end at 3.00 pm after which the functionaries disperse and go home," District Election Officer, Vilas Patil said.

The DEO also has appealed to the citizens to stay indoors from 9.00 am to 3.00 pm as the rallies were likely to disrupt the traffic movement in the city causing inconvenience. "It is advisable that the women and children keep indoors during the period rather than getting stuck up in the road," Collector said.
