The Election Commission has rejected the request of "some political parties" to change the dates of the first two phase of polls in Assam because of festivals, saying it cannot have this "luxury" for such a huge national exercise.
"Some parties requested us to change dates of April 7 and 12 for polling in Assam. Unfortunately, we cannot agree," CEC V S Sampath said.
