NGO moves NHRC over Hooda slapper's whereabouts

CHANDIGARH: A Rohtak-based NGO has moved the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) to ascertain the whereabouts of Kamal Makhija, a Gohana youth who tried to slap Haryana CM Bhupinder Hooda on Feburary 2 at Panipat during a road show of the Congress.

Contrary to Kamal's father Mahesh Makhija's claims that his son is safe, former Rohtak MLA Subhash Batra, who heads an NGO for human rights, in a complaint to NHRC alleged that Kamal's family is under pressure and the youth is missing.

"Nobody has seen him since February 2 and he is not at home. Police claim he is not in their custody. Where is he? Since the government can do anything, we approached the NHRC,'' Batra said.

According to sources, the family is under pressure to keep Kamal away from media.

Inspector general of police, Rohtak range, Anil Kumar Rao, dismissed allegations that Kamal's family is under any kind of pressure. The IG said that the case against Kamal is still under investigation and appropriate action will follow.

Kamal's father blamed the opposition parties for making him and his family a scapegoat for political interests. Kamal was booked and arrested under sections 323, 341, 332 and 353 of IPC after the incident.
