NEW DELHI: In the two-hour long meeting held in the Congress War Room, Kiran stuck to his guns by stating that the time is not right to divide the state. But this was immediately contested by Rajanarasimha who argued that this was the right time to take a decision on Telangana to prevent further sacrifices by the youth of the region.
Chiranjeevi's sided with the Chief Minister. The former PRP boss urged Digvijay to make Hyderabad a Union Territory stating that it will ensure the safety and security of all in the state capital, sources said. However, this was contested by the deputy CM who said that anything less than Hyderabad being part of Telangana will not be acceptable to the people of the region.
While Kiran raised many of his oft-repeated water issues, Chiranjeevi repeatedly pleaded with the party not to go ahead with the bifurcation until the Hyderabad issue was settled. According to sources, Kiran Kumar opposed the division stating that the sharing of Krishna and Godavari waters would become an insurmountable problem.
Digvijay brokered peace and told the warring leaders that all the issues raised by them will be examined in detail by the Group of Ministers that is overseeing the bifurcation process.
Speaking to the media after the meeting, Digvijay Singh said all state leaders will have to cooperate in implementing the decision of the Congress Working Committee. Before the coordination meeting, Digvijay held one-on-one meetings with the Chief Minister, deputy chief minister, PCC president and Union tourism minister.
Earlier in the day, Digvijay ruled out a change of guard in the state.
"Kiran's father was a loyal Congressman and so is he. Kiran's family is a staunch supporter of the Congress," he told the media.
