SC judge heaps praise on Rahul Gandhi

HYDERABAD: Justice J Chalameswar of the Supreme Court on Saturday poured heaped praise on Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi for rescuing the SC judgement that disqualified convicted politicians from staying in power.

Speaking at a meeting held in the city to felicitate Justice A Ramalingeswar Rao who was recently elevated as judge of the AP high Court, Justice Chalameswar, though did not name Rahul directly, was obviously referring to him. "Though the various political parties do not agree on any single issue so easily, they all ganged up to scrap the SC judgement and tried to bring in an ordinance that was aimed at protecting convicted politicians," the SC judge said.

"A great man has intervened at the last minute and ensured the scrapping of the ordinance and it was because of that great man's endorsement of the correctness of the SC judgement, it could be saved. That great man had done immense service to the nation through his timely intervention," the SC judge said.

Justice K C Bhanu described justice Ramalingeswar Rao as a legal expert who has excellent grip over law and as one who rose to the status of a judge of the HC through sheer merit.
