One killed in Kokrajhar firing

KOKRAJHAR: One trader was killed and another injured when suspected militants opened fire at Pundhorgaon village in Kokrajhar district on Friday.

The deceased was identified as Lalji Sheikh, a bamboo trader. Suraj Ali, who was injured, was taken to hospital.

Unofficial sources blamed the firing on a fight between two groups.

Kokrajhar district, which is under the Bodoland Territorial Council, had seen an ethnic conflict last year between Bodo tribals and immigrant Muslims. Over 70 people had died in the clashes.
