Reacting sharply to BJP's prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi's accusation that the trio of the BSP, SP and Congress had ruined UP, Mayawati said, "The truth is that infighting among the trio comprising Modi, L K Advani and Rajnath Singh in the BJP will indirectly help the BSP. The trio is busy clipping each other's wings." She said the BJP which is talking about development should reflect on what it did while heading the NDA government at the Centre for six years.
Mayawati said the BSP is supporting the UPA government only to keep communal forces at bay. "We have no understanding with the Congress or any other party," she said. She also took on the Akhilesh government, saying the recent Muzaffarnagar riots spoke volumes about its failure to maintain law and order. She said some parties were trying to flare up communal forces to polarise different sections of the society in their lust for votes. "With elections round the corner, such communal forces are sure to get aggressive," she said.
Mocking at the distribution of free laptops to students by the Akhilesh government, she said such steps can never bring about growth and development.
"If the current state of affairs continues to prevail, the day is not far when UP will be officially declared a backward state."
Mayawati called the SP's 'samajik nyay yatra' a farce. "SP is trying hard to woo the OBCs but the community should recall how the SP government deprived them of their right of reservation in promotion," she said.
The BSP chief also attacked Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi for his comment that Mayawati was not letting dalit leadership emerge. "Who is stopping the Congress from making efforts to get dalit leaders?" she asked.
