Indian high commission in Dhaka draws CPI MP's flak

NEW DELHI: CPI MP Gurudas Dasgupta has complained to foreign minister Salman Khurshid about the functioning of Indian high commission in Dhaka.

Dasgupta has said that a large number of patients, many of them emergency cases needing immediate care, apply for Indian visa for treatment. The CPI MP said the process of granting visa is "inordinately delayed resulting in some cases of death of precarious patients."

Dasgupta said he has information that a "caucus has developed around the Commission who wants payment for arranging expeditious sanction of visa." "Moreover, there is a talk of shortage of staff," he has written.
