Citing the example of recent killings of two senior RJD leaders in Arwal and West Champaran districts, Rabri Devi said in a statement, "The so-called rule of law is prevailing nowhere in Bihar. In fact, there is rule of criminals and mafias everywhere. The RJD workers and supporters are being killed because of the sharp deterioration in law and order." She further said, if one goes by the data provided by the state government on its home department's website, more than 25,000 cases of murder and 7,500 cases of rape were reported in the state during eight-year rule of Nitish Kumar. "Nitish should tell people where is the rule of law," she quipped. She said the criminals have become so emboldened that they murdered a famous businessman, Ramji Prasad Gupta, at his own apartment in Patliputra Colony in the state capital.
Rabri said that the RJD's dalit cell chief of Arwal district, Yogendra Manjhi, was recently kidnapped and murdered near Arwal. The state government announced compensation only after senior RJD leader and MP Ram Kripal Yadav sat on dharna. Similarly, in West Champaran district, a senior party leader, Mohammad Gazi, was killed recently.
On October 23, Nitish Kumar, while speaking at a book release function at 'Samvad' auditorium here, hailed remarkable improvement in the state's governance system under his rule. "When I became chief minister in November 2005, it was not the issue of 'bad governance'. It was a problem of 'absence of governance," he had said. The CM also hailed amazing improvement in law and order scenario in the state, claiming earlier women used to fear coming out of home in evening even in towns.
