NEW DELHI: Congress on Friday rejected BJP's attack on Prime Minister Manmohan Singh after the CBI filed a fresh FIR in the Coalgate scam, saying he has been "more than fair, open and transparent" on the matter.
Responding to questions on Singh's statement that he was ready to face CBI in the matter as he had nothing to hide, Congress spokesman Randeep Singh Soorjewala said the prime minister had "stated the obvious as nobody in the country is above the law".
However, he argued that the PM has been steadfastly maintaining that the decision on allocation of Talabira coal block to Hindalco was correct. "It was a correct decision taken on facts and it is an appropriate decision... the PM has steadfastly maintained that whatever he did was entirely correct," Soorjewala said.
