CHENNAI: Joining the chorus of support in the government for AICC vice-president Rahul Gandhi, who denounced the Congress-led UPA's ordinance to save convicted legislators from disqualification, Union shipping minister G K Vasan said he was only reflecting the popular sentiment of the party and people.
Vasan, a senior member of the Union cabinet, which had endorsed the ordinance on Tuesday, said Rahul's view was quite clear. "Rahul has expressed his opinion very clearly. It is not only his opinion, I think he has echoed the voice of the Congress party from Kashmir to Kanyakumari, and also the people of this country," he said.
Talking to mediapersons at Sathyamurthy Bhavan, the PCC headquarters here, the shipping minister said Prime Minister Manmohan Singh would take up the issue after he returned from his foreign visit. There should not be any differences within the Congress on popular sentiments of the country, he said, and ruled out any differences among party leaders.
